HISTORICA ENCOUNTERS WITH CANADA
Every year Senior 2 & 3 students from Pilot Mound Collegiate can apply for the Encounters With Canada Program. This gives them the opportunity, if selected, to attend a seven-day seminar held in Ottawa at the Terry Fox Youth Centre. Here the students meet other young people from across Canada, and through tours, discussions and other activities, gain a greater knowledge of and an appreciation for our country.
The themes offered are:
1) Arts and Culture,
2) Sports and Fitness,
3) Science and Technology,
4) Law,
5) Journalism and Communications,
6) Business and Entrepreneurship,
7) Canada Remembers,
8) R.C.M.P.
9) International Affairs,
10) Medicine and Health,
11) Polotics in Canada and
12) Ecology and Environment. As well, participants explore some of the governmental, judicial, and cultural institutions of Canada's capital and meet experts and officials in different fields.
The total cost of the trip and one week stay in Ottawa at the Terry Fox Youth Center is $625.00 per student, which the students must fund-raise from local service clubs, associations, and their own Senior Student Council. They, themselves, have already put up $100.00.
